Sally couldn’t wait to be five years old, it was all she talked about. Exactly one month before her fifth birthday, her mommy was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her mommy explained what was going to happen at each stage of the cancer treatment so that Sally would know what to expect.

About the Author At 42 years old, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. In one year, I had chemotherapy, a lumpectomy, a bilateral mastectomy, chemotherapy again, radiation, breast reconstruction, and a hysterectomy. I’ve always been a person of faith, but until I was diagnosed, I didn’t realize how strong my faith was. From the very first appointment, I trusted that God would take care of me, and He did. I never questioned God as to why I got cancer. I know why. I have a great life with my husband, Val and our daughters, Ashley, Hailey and Sally, but I believe God was giving me incentive to do more. I believe He wants me to be a messenger for breast cancer. I learned very quickly how much a positive attitude affected my recovery. I didn’t want to miss out on anything and I made the best of what I had. Throughout my journey, I have been very open and willing to share my experiences with breast cancer. |
